Mrs. Sain's Web PageEXCEED EXPECTATIONS English IV The senior year of high school is a time for reflection and broadening their horizons. Seniors should prepare for their futures in my class by completing scholarship forms, reviewing majors, and making plans for their future. It is also a time for them to broaden their knowledge of world literature and history. We will be discussing many types of literature throughout the ages and compile a research paper.
English III The juniors main priority is the TAKS test. I am a firm believer that students should exceed expectations. I do not teach the TAKS test just to pass it; that is telling the students that mediocrity is acceptable. They must learn that to exceed expectations means that they have risen above the rest and learned English and not how to take a test. Also, according to the Texas Education Agency, exceeding expectations on the TAKS test (2200 raw score and a 3 on the writing) means that they do not have to take the reading and writing parts of the THEA, the test that is administered to determine eligibility for Texas colleges. It saves the students money because they do not have to pay for the THEA, and it also boosts their self-confidence for college level work. Resources The following site is one of the best sites I have found for an online reference for writing a research paper: The Official Web site for Diana Hacker
Journalism We have two divisions for journalism: the newspaper stories for the Lamb County Leader and the yearbook. These two classes also prepare for UIL journalism events. Last year we were selected as one of the top yearbooks in the nation according to the Taylor Publishing Co. in Dallas. UIL I am coaching the following UIL events this year: Prose Poetry Literary Criticism News Writing Feature Writing Editorial Writing Headline Writing
